Location -> Pisogne in the province of Brescia, Lombardy
Who it is aimed at10 teenagers aged 12 to 17 who have been abused, abandoned or socially excluded and removed from their natural families by order of the legal authorities or social services.
What it involvesThe La Casa sul Lago project entails the creation of a residential education centre. The project’s name, meaning “the house on the lake”, refers to the building to which the project relates: an old, listed building in the centre of Pisogne, a small town in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, on the shore of the Iseo Lake. The project is designed to meet the real and urgent need highlighted by the analysis of the area, namely that there are only 26 residential places for minors in the Camonica Valley and the Alto Sebino and that the Fraternità group, which plays a leading role in a highly acclaimed project in the area, can only partially meet the demand for accommodation from social services. There is, therefore, a dire need to create new and more efficient systems for taking in minors and providing a prompt response to the area’s requirements.
Oliver Twist has monitored the initiative since the planning stage. The Foundation made appropriate contributions during the planning of the project and has also provided the necessary resources to cover the costs of renovation, furnishing, staffing and food for the minors until the service became operational.
PartnerThe Oliver Twist Foundation set up the project in collaboration with the Fraternità Creativa Cooperative, part of the Fraternità Group, a consortium of social cooperatives that has been operating in the province of Brescia since 1978.The Fraternità Group has twenty years of experience in residential services for minors and a widely tested educational model. The cooperative is sound, committed, well-organised and recognised in the area. Today, it assists over 15 non-profit organisations, all of which are specialised according to user type and geographical location.
