Who it is aimed atThis project is aimed at helping 12 minors aged 6 to 18 in difficult circumstances that social services or the Juvenile Court have temporarily removed from their natural families and placed in suitable homes to provide them with the necessary educational and relational development to enable them to lead a “normal” life.
What it involvesThe project involves the creation of 2 new family homes.
This has made it possible for 6 minors to be taken into each family home, one of which is set up as an emergency response centre. These centres are capable of quickly meeting the requirements of the forces of law and order, Juvenile Courts, hospitals and other local organisations, to deal with situations of prejudice and immediate danger to minors, in which it is absolutely essential that the abandoned, ill-treated or abused minors are immediately removed from their original situation.
By creating suitable homes for the care and education of minors in difficult circumstances, the project offers a valid response to the social and cultural emergency caused by Italian Law no. 149/2001, which required the closing of orphanages by 31 December 2006.
The Oliver Twist Foundation contributed to the planning phase of the project and also financed the renovation, furnishing, staffing and food for the minors until the service was operational.
PartnerThe Famiglie Insieme project was set up in collaboration with the Fraternità Association, which has twenty years of experience in taking in minors from all over Italy. The Association is highly thought-of in the area and can boast undisputed professionalism and commitment, with over 300 families in the regions of Piemonte, Veneto, Tuscany, Umbria and Sicily today. The procedure is to entrust the minors to families belonging to the Association, after providing these families with adequate training and the assistance of expert staff (youth workers, neuropsychiatrists, social workers, teachers and psychologists) and with education and help in forming relationships with their natural families or with social services.
